Ray of Sunshine has a demo!
So we submitted to Josei Jam at 2AM.. in true game jam fashion. How has it been three months?
We're really happy with how much we've put together while busy with other collaborative projects, that included designing assets for two showcases, a trailer, and a website- excuses, excuses, right? But we're here! And what a great way to cap off Filipino Heritage Month!
This is actually the first game I've ever been a part of, and my first ever game jam! ⭐ There's no better way to learn than to just dive right in (and to watch Tamika do magic).
When we first developed the idea we both had different wishlists and found a way to make it work narratively! Tamika wanted to build a game with a cooking/assembly function, and I've always wanted to draw a manananggal, but to also learn more about other Filipino monsters and creatures.
Some of the sources we were looking for inspiration from were general word-of-mouth, The Pinoy Monster Lover Anthology by Motzie Dapul, and Spongebob: Krusty Cook-Off ("What would Spongebob do?"). Excited to do more deep diving on these characters.
We have more in store for Ray of Sunshine because trust me, we know you don't actually meet the love interests in our current demo so we'll definitely get rolling on that.
Our goals for the next update:
- Develop expressions for characters
- Illustrate pop-ups for certain items
- Design UI elements: dialogue boxes, options, continue button
- Working skeleton for the food service portion of the game
- Create a main menu
Please enjoy the early demo, and anticipate the next one!
